Melbourne's Moorabbin and Dingley Village get moving

Two big infrastructure projects in Melbourne are sure to please local homeowners and may encourage home buyers to consider living in Melbourne's outskirts.

Construction of the $156 million Dingley Bypass will move ahead now that the contract has been awarded. Taking out a home mortgage in the Dingley Village area could be a smart move.

Minister for Roads Terry Mulder announced on July 23 that Thiess Pty Ltd will deliver the project, which involves the construction of a 6.4 km arterial route between Dingley Village's Westall Road and Moorabbin's Warrigal Road.

"Local traffic will be separated from through traffic, meaning reduced congestion, shorter travel times and safer access for all road users," Mr Mulder stated.

Melbourne's bypass project is a vital connection in the 19 km Moorabbin-Dandenong South arterial road that is hoped to boost transport connections for Melbourne's outer reaches.

"The Dingley Bypass is a long overdue piece of infrastructure that is vital for the growing industrial areas in south east Melbourne," Member for Mordialloc Lorraine Wreford stated.

Meanwhile, the Moorabbin bus interchange is set for a $624,000 revamp.

The funding comes as part of a state government and City of Kingston partnership, with the project announced by Mr Mulder and City of Kingston Mayor Paul Peulich on July 23.

"By installing new shelters to protect bus passengers from Melbourne's weather, as well as installing new seating, signage and lighting, this bus interchange upgrade will make catching public transport easier, safer and more comfortable," Mr Mulder noted.

Approximately 570 individuals jump off a bus and catch a train at the Moorabbin interchange every weekday, highlighting the positive impact the upgrade will have on public transport users, Mr Mulder continued.

"Transforming Moorabbin Junction into a desirable destination relies on good public transport links and facilities that people feel comfortable using. Upgrades such as these are an important step in realising that vision," Mr Peulich explained.

Those thinking about buying property in Dingley Village or Moorabbin would be wise to check the fixed home loan rates currently available.
