Dream Home Reduced to Rubble

New home owners Kristine Diven and Micho McAdow were understandably devastated to find their new property was demolished – in error. The US couple received confirmation from the Detroit City Council that their home and 11 other nearby properties, was bulldozed by mistake.

Although the couple did not need a home loan as they paid just $500 at a tax auction, they intended to spend in excess of $8000 to restore the property as their own home. Ms Diven and Mr McAdow paid visits to the property to help protect it from vandalism but learned that it was mistakenly reduced to a pile of rubble as part of a process to ‘clean up the local neighbourhood’.
Detroit City Official, Karla Henderson, explained that the property was one of a few that had been marked for demolition and should never have been sold. The couple have since been refunded their $500 but have spoken of a type of mourning for the loss of the home they intended to recreate and call their own home.
