New wave of SMSF managers
People who have established a Self-Managed Super Fund and handed it to their family accountant may have other options about the management of that fund.
Investment adviser Richard Livingstone said people should check their SMSF to make sure the savings they made by having an SMSF were not going to accountants or fund managers in the form of fees.
He said there had been a number of specialist SMSF online services and administrators created since the SMSF became more popular.
Some of those could lead to savings, compared to the hourly rate of paying an accountant to go through documents and bank statements.
Mr Livingstone said some accountants had also begun to turn to online methods, however others had not which was costing SMSFs extra administration fees.
He said online management also enables SMSF trustees access to information at their fingertips.
