10 Laundry Tips That Will Make Your Life Easier

Laundry seems like a very easy chore to do. You just need to separate your whites and your coloured clothes, toss some laundry detergent in the washer and then put your wet laundry into the dryer or hang it on the line.

But no—washing your clothes can surprisingly get complicated. So here are 10 laundry tips that can make your life easier.

1. Remove stains with vinegar

Washing clothes with vinegar will remove most stains in clothing. Apply or spray undiluted white vinegar to stains on washable 100% cotton, polyester and permanent press cotton fabrics until saturated. Then launder according to the tag instructions.

2. Vinegar as a fabric softener

Replace your expensive fabric softener with white distilled vinegar. Add ½ cup of vinegar to the fabric softener dispenser of your machine for a full load of laundry. This will not only soften your fabric, but it’s also much better for your washing machine too.

3. Use a mesh laundry bag

Protect your delicate garments such as your underwear, lingerie, and swimsuits by using a mesh laundry bag. This will help them maintain their shape and size. You can also use a mesh bag if you constantly lose socks in your laundry. It will be easier to pair things up when folding.

4. Add a dry towel into the dryer

Placing a dry towel into the dryer with your wet laundry can speed up the whole process, because the dry towel will absorb some of the moisture, making your drying time faster.

5. Try using aluminium foil as dryer sheets

If you don’t have a dry towel, you can use an aluminium foil instead. Just ball up a sheet of tin foil as big as your fist then toss it in the dryer. This can also reduce static electricity and it can be reused multiple times.

6. Unshrink clothes with baby shampoo

Restore the former shape and size of your clothes by using baby shampoo. Start by filling the laundry sink or bucket with lukewarm water, then add 1/3 cup of baby shampoo. Let it soak for half an hour, rinse, and lay it flat on a dry towel.

7. Remove armpit stains with baking soda and lemon juice

Do you have yellow or grey armpit stains in your shirts? Just mix baking soda with lemon juice then apply it to the stained area, let it sit for an hour. Then wash according to the tag.

8. Add salt to brightly coloured clothes

Your vibrant-coloured clothes will last longer when you add a teaspoon of salt in the washer. The chloride in the salt helps keep clothes bright by sealing in the colour across repeated washings.

9. Keep your clothes white with vinegar

Distilled white vinegar will not harm your clothes, however, it’s strong enough to get rid of the soap left by detergents. Just add ½ cup of vinegar to the final rinse, or to the fabric softener dispenser for brighter and cleaner clothes.

10. Get rid of wrinkles with ice cubes

Run the dryer on the hottest setting then trow a couple of ice cubes in the dryer for about 15 minutes. When the ice cube melts, steam is released helping get rid of wrinkles in your clothes.
