Fabric Sofa vs. Leather Sofa, Which is Better?

Fabric Sofa vs. Leather Sofa, Which is Better?

A sofa is one of the most important items of furniture you can purchase. It is a place where friends and family gather when they visit and, along with your bed, a place where you are going to spend a lot of your time. The problem is that there are so many sofas on the market it’s difficult to know which kind to choose, and the choice always boils down to a leather or a fabric sofa. Both of them have their pros and cons and here are some of them.

The pros of a leather sofa

Appearance: A leather sofa is classic and sleek and adds a contemporary but elegant appearance to your home.

Safety: If you or anyone in your household suffers from allergies a leather sofa is going to be your best option because they are hypoallergenic. They don’t accumulate pet hair, dust mites and other allergens.

Durability: Leather sofas last approximately 4 times longer than any other sofa.

The cons of a leather sofa

Price: The majority of people shy away from purchasing a leather sofa because they are so expensive. Although they last longer and they are good value for money, the initial price of purchasing one is what puts buyers off.

Less variety: Leather sofas are classic but they are available in a limited amount of colours. If you are looking for a bright orange sofa, you are probably not going to find one in leather.

The pros of a fabric sofa

Price: If you are on a small budget you can still get a decent fabric sofa.

Options: Fabric sofas come in a variety of textures and colours. You won’t have a problem finding a sofa to match the decor of your living room.

Comfort: Leather sofas can be either too hot or too cold and even sticky at times. Fabric sofas always feel good, and the material is always cosier and softer.

The cons of fabric sofas

Cleaning: It can be difficult to clean a fabric sofa especially with stains such as red wine. You can’t just wipe a fabric sofa; you have to shampoo and scrub it.

Dust mites: Dust mites are the enemy of fabric sofas; you are going to have to make sure you hoover it at least once a week.
