Loans.com.au gives away $20k

Loans.com.au’s Compare, Save, and Win competition has come to a heart-warming end with the $20,000 cash prize going to help a Newcastle family extend their home for their disabled son.

It was won by the Ciba family of Waratah West, who entered the competition when they applied to refinance their home to build a granny flat for Bayley, their 14-year-old son who has autism and global development delay.

“We had plans to build the granny flat eventually to give Bayley some more independence as he gets older,” Jenny Ciba said.

“We thought we would just build the shell and work away on it until it was finished, but now we can get it all done.”

Mrs Ciba said the extra $20,000 will enable Bayley’s flat to be finished to a higher specification than it would otherwise have been.

“Anything to do with disability costs more because you can’t just use standard fittings and finishes,” Mrs Ciba said. “We can put more reinforcement in the walls and a higher grade of flooring that will make it better for Bayley.”

Loans.com.au Managing Director, Ms Marie Mortimer, said loans.com.au was delighted the Ciba family had won the $20,000 prize, which was drawn on Tuesday morning at loans.com.au’s Brisbane headquarters.

The competition ran for three months and attracted 27,000 entries from all over Australia.

“It was a great response to our competition and it shows how many home owners are looking for a better deal on their home loan,” Ms Mortimer said. “It’s a happy ending that the Cibas won the prizemoney.”

Mrs Ciba said her application was the first time she had applied for a home loan online.

“It was quite easy to do and now we’ve got this big bonus as well,” she said. “Nothing like this ever happens to us and it’s hard to describe how much it means. It will make a big difference.”
