For the fourth consecutive year, loans.com.au proudly supported the Live Like Her Challenge as the event's Gold Sponsor, while also having team members take part in the overnight challenge at Brisbane Airport. Joining almost 400 participants, our staff spent the night sleeping in their cars to raise funds and awareness for The Forgotten Women, an organisation dedicated to providing housing and support for women over 55 who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness. The Brisbane event raised more than $430,000, helping The Forgotten Women continue its mission of providing safe and suitable housing for older women who need it most.
For many of our team members, it was their first time participating in the challenge, making for a truly eye-opening experience. Throughout the evening, our team heard from women supported by The Forgotten Women and learned more about the realities of housing insecurity. One woman's story particularly resonated with the audience. Despite having a degree and a job, she found herself facing eviction and relying on friends' couches for accommodation in her old age. While grateful for the support, she shared that it never truly felt like home because she was living someone else's life rather than her own.
Hearing these stories reinforced an important message: homelessness can affect anyone. A change in circumstances, loss of income, relationship breakdown, or unexpected hardship can quickly place someone in a vulnerable position. It highlighted just how important organisations like The Forgotten Women are in helping women regain stability, independence and dignity.
