The loans.com.au team recently took part in the Legacy Brisbane Backyard Assist program alongside Harwell Home Care, spending the day supporting Legacy’s widow Christine Nelson by helping restore her backyard.

Despite the rainy day, the team put on their gloves and got into the yard work, clearing weeds, removing overgrown plants and creating a safer and more open outdoor space for Christine. Their efforts helped improve accessibility around the home, making it easier for Christine to move freely and enjoy her surroundings.

This marked the team’s first gardening charity session in several years, and it proved to be a rewarding and impactful experience. Seeing the transformation from before and after, and witnessing Christine’s smile at having a refreshed space, made the day especially meaningful for everyone involved.

Legacy Brisbane CEO Brendan Cox reflected on the importance of the partnership:

“loans.com.au people are here ripping the weeds and old bushes from a widow’s home. So, it’s this practical support that ensures Legacy continues to deliver that promise to the families in our care.”

One of our volunteers, Daniel Carde (Head of Product) shared that it’s important to give back to the community, but with busy schedules it can be hard to find the time. It’s great that loans.com.au encourages the staff to get involved during business hours, it means we can actually do it. It’s a fantastic initiative to be part of.

Who is Legacy Brisbane?

Legacy Brisbane supports 3,919 family members of fallen and injured veterans across South‑East, Central and Western Queensland. Since 1928, the organisation has been committed to honour the promise made to veterans by providing long‑term social, emotional, developmental, and financial support to their families.

Legacy Brisbane works to ensure that the partners and children of veterans who have given their lives or health in service are able to fully realise their potential, believing that adversity in service should never lead to financial or social disadvantage.

Through the support of partners and volunteers, Legacy continues to care for families in their time of greatest need and uphold its commitment to those who have sacrificed so much.
