Bathroom trends you’ll be loving in 2017

Hottest trends for bathrooms in 2017

Along with kitchens, bathrooms can be one of the most expensive rooms to renovate. The last thing you want is to be spending thousands, if not tens of thousands of dollars on materials and colour schemes that are out of date before your bathroom is even finished.
Trends will always come and go, but if you’re planning on upgrading your bathroom, here are some of the latest bathroom trends likely to stand the test of time and help keep your bathroom at the front of the pack.
Colour schemes
There has been a real shift away from light and bright bathrooms towards darker and bolder interiors this year. Black, charcoal and dark grey are popular choices for everything from feature walls and tiles to cabinetry. You will often find this colour scheme teamed with natural materials such as timber and stone for cabinets and benchtops to bring an earthy element to the room, along with brass, bronze or gold fittings for a splash of luxe.
Matte surfaces or a combination of matte and polished surfaces is the finish of choice in 2017. A bathroom dominated by polished surfaces will instantly look outdated, so if you’re drawn to these be sure to balance them with plenty of non-shiny surfaces to keep your bathroom looking fresh and current.
If you want your bathroom to look bang on trend in 2017, a floating vanity is a must. Wall hung shelves are also a popular choice in place of freestanding units that have a more old fashioned feel and are best reserved for a heritage or country look. If you have the room, adding a built-in dressing table to your vanity will have your bathroom scoring off the charts.
Basins and baths
Raised basins are the handwashing casement of choice in 2017, providing the opportunity to incorporate a sculptural element to your bathroom. Meanwhile, island baths continue to dominate this year, with back-to-wall tubs also gaining in popularity in smaller bathrooms where freestanding baths aren’t an option.
It’s all about the hexagon in 2017. That six-sided shape has bathroom renovators in a spin when it comes to choosing tiles for their showers, walls or floors. Whether opting for a smaller or larger tile, the hexagon tile is the most popular bathroom tile and best suited to one area of the bathroom.
Other tile trends include modern geometric and Moroccan-inspired shapes or patterns on flat or 3D surfaces. Arrangements including herringbone, diamond, diagonal and vertical brick formats are also proving popular.
Black is the new, well, black when it comes to tapware and fittings such as door handles and towel racks in the most up-to-date bathrooms. And always matte over polished. Other hot options for 2017 include brass, copper and rose gold tapware and fittings with a brushed finish.
Bath rugs
You’ll never see them in magazines, but no-one wants to step out of a bath or shower dripping onto a cold tile floor. While fluffy old bath mats and wobbly timber boards are a thing of the past, smaller versions of everyday throw rugs you’d normally see in a living room or bedroom have made their entrance in 2017.
Stick with these bathroom trends to ensure the money you put into upgrading your bathroom is well spent.
